Okichitaw Indigenous Martial Arts, 2020
Most people have never heard of Okichitaw, and that included us. When we think of martial arts, most reflect on Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan and 'traditional' Eastern disciplines. Okichitaw breaks that mould as it is an Indigenous Martial Art that has been modified from traditional training of warriors of that culture. In addition to holding classes in Toronto, Sonny Robbins, a Four Feathers Master of the combat arts, also travels to Barrie to teach classes at the Barrie Native Friendship Centre.
This training session was held several months before COVID-19 came to our shores, so there is no social distancing etc. We do not know at this time if or when training will resume, but if you want more information about this unique method of self-defence, please visit HTTPS://www.okichitaw.com.
Last year, we recorded several projects that were lost due to technical issues we could not surpass at that time. We managed to recover the original footage during the COVID shutdown.
We would like to thank the following sponsors of the Ontario Community Awareness Network. These businesses show they care about our shared community by helping us to provide a locally-focused truly local voice to you and your neighbours. They also enable our crew to be able to continue providing donated services to promote local benevolent community groups and charities based in The City of Barrie, the Town of Innisfil, and the Township of Oro-Medonte.
